What happens to a world where machines do everything for us, and we slowly forget how to feel? In a seemingly perfect future, comfort turns into apathy. Join us on a magical journey full of humour, imagination, and emotion, and rediscover what it truly means to be human.
Young investors Joe Waker and Bernard Guilford develop robots designed to serve humans. Their investors pressure them to bring their robots to market. Against their will, they are forced to begin mass production with two prototypes, Kim and Mick, that are not yet fully developed. From then on, the robots take over all human activities, people become dull, and a dystopian world full of apathy emerges. The only thing left for them to do is watch the Magic Forest Show, produced by the robots in the Magic Forest. After a strange experience, Mick suddenly begins to doubt whether they are doing the right thing as robots. He seems to have been infected by a virus. Kim wants to help him in the Magic Forest. Lady Gumola, a humanoid who rules the robots, tries to fix the defect. Kobald Jim, a funny little fellow, appears in the Magic Forest and tells Kim and Mick that he is supposed to lead them to the great oak tree to reach the ruler of the Magic Forest. On the way there, Lady Gumola reappears; she wants to win Kim and Mick over to subjugate humans to robots. Through their encounters with Lady Gumola and their journey with Jim, Kim and Mick finally reach their destination, the great oak tree. There, with Jim’s help, the two realise their love for each other. This realisation of love triggers the collapse of the enchanted forest, the world of robots disappears, the great oak tree is destroyed, and with it the ruler of the Magic Forest. Kim and Mick suddenly see this ruler of the Magic Forest and recognise their creator, Joe Waker. Thus, they learn about the last emotion, grief. At the same time, a new world begins. In this world, Waker and Guilford’s vision is fulfilled. People regain their zest for life. They exist alongside robots. Waker and Guilford, together with Kim and Mick, fulfil their original dream. They not only create robots that serve humans but also give them what was missing at the beginning, a soul. The robots receive their missing component: the soul chip. Waker and Guilford can now enjoy their old age contentedly and celebrate the realisation of their utopia.
